Shadow Warrior 3 is a furious explosion of demonic FPS violence, perfect for anyone needing to scratch that DOOM itch, while loaded with an abundance of flavor all its own. The game’s fantastical Asia-inspired killing grounds are littered with freakish beasts, improbable weapons, and countless snappy one-liners from chief protagonist Lo Wang and cohorts Zilla and Motoko. The music is thumping and the chaos is visceral, as Wang grapple-hooks his way from one vibrant and deadly arena to the next, on a mission to beat down the giant dragon he inadvertently helped release. On the Shoulders of Wang
To ensure Shadow Warrior 3 is never over-burdened by its legacy, the team has created a leaner, meaner iteration in terms of the narrative, look, and gameplay focus, partly inspired by the unselfconscious and always-entertaining cinema of New Zealand filmmaker Taika Waititi. “In Shadow Warrior 3 we wanted to tell a simpler, more personal story that fits our fast-paced, crazy gameplay,” said Kuba. “What inspired me most in the initial stage of production was Thor: Ragnarok. That movie not only influenced the plot and gameplay but also the color palette.”

That’s not to say the previous games didn’t have an important role to play in deciding what went into Shadow Warrior 3. “Having two quite different installments behind us, we found ourselves in the interesting position of being able to pick our favorite components and use them to create the foundations of Shadow Warrior 3,” said Kuba. “The first process was distilling the structure. Narration-wise we took more from the first installment. In terms of movement, freedom and improvising during encounters it was Shadow Warrior 2.” On that solid foundation, the team was free to add the flair that gives Shadow Warrior 3 its own viscera-soaked identity. “The evolution appeared when we introduced the Gore weapons,” continued Kuba. “They’ve always existed in our games to some extent, but they became one of the key gameplay features in the third installment.”

Shadow Warrior began its journey on PC in 1997, and the platform remains at the heart of the franchise. “Fast-paced shooters shine the brightest at high FPS rates, which is why we’re optimizing Shadow Warrior 3 to give the players the best possible experience on PC,” said Kuba, whose commitment to PC naturally extends to providing players with the control scheme of their choice. “Shadow Warrior’s legacy on PC has been around for at least 25 years, and the mouse and keyboard is going to be the basic arsenal for every fan of PC shooters,” said Kuba. “That said, the game also supports gamepads with a possibility to remap the keybindings, meaning you can also play the game in a more leisurely fashion, on a couch in front of a big-screen TV.”

In summary, Shadow Warrior 3 is a gore-soaked, rapid-fire, razor-sharp FPS, destined to do an excellent job of scratching itchy trigger fingers this March. “Players will experience one of the wackiest and most dynamic shooters the market has to offer, with a charismatic and non-conventional hero, not-too-serious enemies, and an insane arsenal of weapons,” said Kuba. “All of this takes place in a setting that we coined as neo-feudal Asia — a blend of traditional Asian architecture with a fantasy twist to it. And there’s also a racoon. Or should I say, the racoon.”
