Cyberpower UK’s gaming PCs are aesthetically mesmerising. It is clear to see why. With the PC gaming market now worth around £27 billion and games with impeccable graphics such as Ghost of Tsushima, there is a growing focus on spending money on the look of the actual computers so that the equipment is up to par with the experience it gives. The PC and its myriad components then become a canvas on which the gamer can showcase their style, taste and preferred colour palette. Radiators, pumps, tubes and fans can be personalised, opening the door to a whole world of customisation.
Keeping PCs – gaming or any others - cool and operating optimally requires liquid cooling systems. This could be just an opaque sealed unit within the console or could be a transparent colourfully hypnotic unit with an organised tangle of visible neon tubes so that the PC looks as good as it performs.
High-end PCs can have their cooling systems customised to the precise specifications of the user. One high-profile user is gaming host and presenter Julia Hardy who was the first person in the UK to have an Intel 12th Generation processor with a fabricated custom loop-to-liquid, cooled system in a PC built by Cyberpower. Steve Mason, General Manager at Cyberpower UK said that system was “…brand spanking new. There is nothing newer at the minute. The thing that we did for Julia whereby we actually fabricated a cooling system to go within the PC, allows a level of customisation which no other cooling system can really afford.”
In her PC there are two loops, one for cooling the GPU and another for cooling the CPU. They are independent of each other and therefore can have their own liquid within them. Julia chose purple and yellow. Others have chosen pink, white, blue, grey, and black.

Gamers can also have different colour and lighting schemes depending on how they have been programmed. And those lighting sequences can be quite complex as Steve explained: “You can do sequences of lighting and you can sync them up with games. There are some games out there, which with CORSAIR iCUE software, you can sync those fans up to a game and then if you get shot in a game your entire system turns red. It's a bit more immersive and people tend to enjoy it.”
Each system is entirely customisable and tailored to the buyer’s tastes. Five systems that are ordered with the same graphics card and the same CPU can all have different sized cases, different places on which to mount the radiators and therefore require entirely different routing loops.
The customised systems are built by dedicated staff with the custom loop PCs taking at least a day for one of the specialist staff members to complete. However, the speediest PC builder in the company can put together a normal PC in seven minutes flat. They timed him. Cyberpower is not only making PCs for the enthusiasts who eat, breathe and sleep gaming but also their parents, their friends and their family.
There are now more than 50 employees at Cyberpower UK, driven by the owner who wants the company to be an online hub for a community of engaged PC gamers and have a reputation for good customer service. The heavy emphasis on solving customer queries, servicing warranties properly and being excited to answer the rare weird and wonderful questions they have never been asked before has meant that the perception of the company has improved despite the challenges posed by the pandemic. “There's been a massive shift in focus in our approach to a more holistic idea.”
The company, especially marketing manager Crystal Pears, wants this positive perception to spill over into social media so that Cyberpower’s reputation is passed on to potential customers. To that end, it has a presence on the standard social platforms and has recently moved on to <a href="https://discord.com/invite/cyberpower">Discord</a>, a popular community chat app where Cyberpower has over 12,000 members.
Crystal said: “The Discord channel is doing really well. It basically gets people that are into PC gaming into Cyberpower, all coming together onto one platform and just talking to each other. We want them to come in and join in the fun.”
Having Intel as a partner is beneficial to Cyberpower as it gives access to market expertise, stock, ideas and resources. Steve said: “Strategically it's vitally important for us because Intel are one of the big three in terms of the gaming market. And if you want to be serious about building PCs, you need to forge partnerships with these guys otherwise you're buggered.” 
He pointed out that in terms of processors Intel cannot be ignored because it would mean shutting off 50% of the market. In addition, he is full of praise for Intel’s 12th Generation chip. He said: “These are the guys who drive the technology, who are driving the manufacturing processes behind everything. Intel's R&amp;D will already be planning three, four or five generations ahead, they'll already know the manufacturing processes which are going to be ahead of that.” Partnering with an organisation like Intel means that Cyberpower can come up with even more elaborately designed systems, secure in the knowledge that the technology it is built on is solid. The future looks snazzy in the world of custom gaming PCs. Currently, on the market, there are metal boxes with tempered glass, designed to show off everything inside and soon there will be cooling liquids that can change colour themselves. And when these innovative components materialise, Cyberpower UK will be ready to bend and mould them, incorporating them into eye-catching gaming PCs.
“These systems builder guys love it. That's all they do. That's all they talk to me about, all the time, coming to me with ideas and I keep having to slow them down,” said Steve.
